Very Rare Jim Tabor Spalding 248 Split Finger c1941
(NO LONGER AVAILABLE)
Vintage Baseball Glove/Mitt: (circa 1941) Spalding 248 button-back split finger with vertically joined tunnel webs measures 9"x 10" and is endorsed by Jim Tabor, 1938 - '47 (facsimile signature on side of heel). Tabor’s endorsement is listed as “Very Rare” in the Bushing/Phillips Glove Price Guide. (This model was only manufactured in ‘41). The photos pretty much describe the glove’s condition and features. As for what you can’t see or might not notice: This glove is designed for a lefty. Leather feels uncommonly soft, smooth and firm yet flexible. Well-padded thumb, heel, and pinky; no padding in pocket. No holes, rips, or tears inside or out; soiling prevalent on pocket side (fingers and thumb). Leather lining uncommonly soft and smooth - comfortable. Heel lacing original; horizontal tunnel webs have been relaced. Rolled black canvas piping in good condition; stitching and seams very good; thumb seam guard solid. Easy-to-read endorsement stamping. No previous owner’s markings anywhere. Brass button with “Spalding Trade Mark” engraved in red shows no tarnish. Solidly built 1941 split finger rarity is an attractive display and a pleasure to wear. Has been cleaned and conditioned.
