Draper-Maynard Walter Dropo Trapper 1950's
(NO LONGER AVAILABLE)
Vintage Baseball Glove/Mitt: (1950's) little D&M (Draper-Maynard) DG 968 Trapper measures 7½"x 7" (10" along contour of pocket from hinge to web) and is endorsed by Walter Dropo, 1949 - '61 (facsimile signature on side of pocket); "lucky dog" logo imprinted on heel. The photos pretty much describe the mitt’s condition and features. As for what you can’t see or might not notice: Uniformly padded leather feels relatively soft, smooth, and "newish" - not fully broken-in. No holes, rips, or tears inside or out; shows minimal wear - very little sign of use. Canvas lining chaffed yet smooth and comfortable. Most lacing original; web has been relaced. Canvas piping in near-new condition. Double-stitched seams excellent. No previous owner’s markings anywhere. Easy-to-read stampings. Well-constructed little D&M mitt displays as well from back as from front. (Several factors lead me to believe that this may have been a salesman’s sample - most obviously: although the mitt hasn't been used much for play, its lining's chaffing indicates that it has been worn on many hands - several times). Trappers were introduced by Rawlings in 1940 and became more popular in the 50's. Has been cleaned and conditioned.
