Rare Lon Warneke Split Finger 1930's
(NO LONGER AVAILABLE)
Vintage Baseball Glove/Mitt: (1930's) horsehide button-back split finger with sewn vertical tunnel loop web measures 9"x 9" (a substantial size adult glove; yet, is stamped "Junior Model") and is endorsed by Lon Warneke, 1930 - '45 (facsimile signature on side of heel). Warneke’s endorsement is listed as "Rare" in the Bushing/Phillips Glove Price Guide. The photos pretty much describe the glove’s condition and features. As for what you can’t see or might not notice: Genuine horsehide feels uncommonly soft, smooth, and firm yet flexible - easy to manipulate each finger individually. Well-padded thumb and pinky; thickly padded heel; pocket and finger stalls fully lined but not padded. No holes, rips, or tears inside or out; shows minimal wear - even tips of fingers are virtually scuff-free. Black leather lining exceptionally soft and smooth - comfortable. Heel lacing original; tunnel loop web appears to be original (is vintage but may have been relaced). Black canvas piping in good/very good condition; stitching and seams also. Black welting is an attractive complement. Brass button with engraved triangular design shows no tarnish. "Rare" split finger displays as well from back as from front, feels good to wear, and is enjoyable to use. No previous owner’s markings anywhere. Has been cleaned and conditioned.
