Wilson "Controller" - Denny McLain "31" Wins
(NO LONGER AVAILABLE)
Vintage Baseball Glove/Mitt: (circa 1970) USA made Wilson “Controller” is an 11.75" pattern commemorating Denny McLain’s 1968 season in which he recorded 31 wins. McLain’s (1963 -'72) facsimile signature is stamped in pocket above large stamping “31” encircled by stars. The photos pretty much describe the glove’s condition and features. As for what you can’t see or might not notice: This Wilson is named “The Controller” for its individual finger loop-straps that are sewn-in at the base of each finger stall. Uniformly padded leather feels smooth and firm - yet almost “floppy” flexible. No holes, rips, or tears inside or out; scuffing on fingertips. Leather lining slightly checked yet smooth and comfortable. Heel and pocket lacing original; fingers and web have been relaced. Rolled leather piping in good/very good condition; stitching and seams also. A previous owner printed his initials on side of wrist strap (not distracting - looks like soiling). Easy-to-read stampings. Well-built glove could still be used competitively. Versatility of an 11.75" pattern is suitable for almost any position - large enough to use for softball but probably better suited for baseball. Reliable glove - catches a ball securely; also, looks good as a commemorative display. Has been cleaned and conditioned. - PS: Denny Mclain is the last MLB pitcher to win 30+ games (31), and the way pitchers are managed today, may always be the last 30 game winner.
